We aim to empower survivors of exploitation on their journey toward financial independence and healing

For survivors of exploitation, the path to their life goals is rarely linear.

What can often be seen as a “choice” is more often a decision based on survival.

The nearly impossible path becomes even more complex. Trafficking survivors struggle to stabilize their lives, made unjustly more difficult by the burden of court fees they are often unable to pay.

Survivors should have what they need to start over

We’ve seen first-hand that lifting the financial burden of court costs can dramatically change the outcomes for survivors of exploitation.

It is an incredible gap in our system that we can commoditize children and then make them pay to try to get the help they need to start their lives back over.

How we work with our clients

01. Identify

Our partner organizations refer clients whose fees are an impediment to their recovery. We itemize and summarize their court costs and system fees to understand their financial need.

02. build

Clients build their financial plan. They build their 25% of the fees charged. We build our 75% of funding.

03. meet targets

Once target goals are met by both client and Spare Change, all court costs and system fees are paid off. Clients now have space to focus more of their time, energy, and earnings towards their recovery.

Community & Support

Clients can participate in community building resource. We offer opportunities for them to explore interests and experience new ways to connect with varying groups around them.

we encourage individuals who are on a path of healing by establishing a consistent practice of taking small steps. We work to help survivors feel supported as they start a journey to overcome the overwhelming by focusing on the impact of direction over perfection.

we desire to promote a sense of being part of something bigger but also building the courage to stand alone, and to belong to yourself above all else. This spirit of belonging as yourself should be guarded for every person.

we value the action required to show love to our community. We seek to see and understand the trauma and suffering of those around us and to take action for those who have been exploited.

we work to provide individuals who have not been afforded a community of safety and belonging with a chance to build a new sense of community through shared interests and experiences.
